Translations of Agatha Christie’s works into French will be “cleaned up”. According to foreign media reports, in the opinion of the editors, ‘offensive’ things will be removed from the books, for example ‘dangerous’ descriptions of the appearance and origin of the characters.
Previously, in a major publishing house, a passage was removed from Christie’s novel “A Caribbean Secret” in which the hero did not see a dark-skinned girl in the bushes at night.
In addition, the expression of the heroine was removed from the book “Death on the Nile”, where she spoke unflatteringly about the children of local residents. From another piece, the phrase “He was, of course, a Jew” was thrown out.
Before that, the last such scandal was associated with the books of the children’s writer Dahl, from which almost everything related to excess weight, violence and mental disorders was removed.
