As Katy Perry wraps up her Play residency in Las Vegas later this year, she already has plans to release a new album and embark on a new tour.
The 38-year-old singer and American Idol judge, who made headlines over the weekend for inviting Kim Kardashian’s daughter North on stage, opened up about her future plans in a new interview with Out.
“I still love making music. I still love to spread light and love. I know there are a lot of people who didn’t make it in Vegas,” Perry began.
“The last time I toured was in 2018. I’m … due. What about it? I got to go out and see the kids that didn’t make it to Vegas,” Perry teased.
Her residency began at Resorts World in Las Vegas in late December 2021, with the first leg lasting until mid-January 2022.
New album and tour: As Katy Perry wraps up her Play residency in Las Vegas later this year, she’s already planning to release a new album and embark on a new tour.

Opening: The 38-year-old singer and American Idol judge, who made headlines this weekend for inviting Kim Kardashian’s daughter North on stage, opened up about her future plans in a new interview with Out.
Saturday night’s performance concluded the seventh phase of the residency, with a phase in mid-May, another in late July and early August, and the final phase from early October to early November.
When asked about the residency, Perry said, “I’m just so proud of the show we created and performed.”
“It is such a spectacular show that we love so much. It’s almost a greatest hits show! I call it all a thriller, not a filler,” she said.
The singer added: “I wish I could bring it to the rest of the world, but it’s just not technically possible to drive through OTT toilets and bathrooms.”
“By closing a chapter on PLAY, I can start a new chapter. I’m so excited about the potential for my story to continue,” she added.
The singer went on to say that the residency was something she had in mind “pre-pandemic,” but the COVID-19 pandemic gave her time to plan.
‘This is what I was thinking about before the pandemic and [I] I was able to take my time and figure it out and do it right during this time when everyone was on hiatus,” she said.
“I was so happy with the timing. I have so many memories coming to Las Vegas before I had a residency,” Perry added.

“I feel very connected to it. We used to vacation here. I used to come to Vegas to visit my grandmother. My parents drop us off in the basement of the Excalibur! I remember everything,” she added.
The plays pay tribute to the LGBTQ community, with Perry admitting her career wouldn’t be where she is today without them.
“First of all, I wouldn’t be here without the support of the gay community. They were such great admirers, fans and influences for me,” Perry said.
“The fan base that comes to this show is very much that community. I’d say it’s probably like 50% of the audience,” she added.
“I think they feel connected to the music. I think they feel safe. I think they love the OTT of the show and it’s a really great show,” she added.
“I would call it a show for the community. I’m channeling my best Cher, my best Liza Minnelli, my trendiest girl on this show. I change my costume all the time. I just give them, I feel like, what they want,” Perry continued.
Although she’s working on a new album and planning a new tour, she still has one big bucket list item: to be a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
It’s definitely on my bucket list. We’re just trying to find the best time to do it. I love Ru and it’s an iconic show. I am inspired by this show every day,” she said.
