Jacques Haitkin is dead: The cameraman of “Nightmare On Elm Street” was 72 years old

Jacques Haitkin, the cinematographer for the first two Nightmare on Elm Street movies, as well as countless other horror and action films, are dead. He died March 21 after a battle with ALS and leukemia, according to a Facebook post by his son Zak Haitkin. He turned 72.

More recently, Haitkin has worked as second unit director of photography, or cinematographer, on some of the industry’s biggest titles, including Black Panther, poison, Captain America: Civil War (And winter soldier), angry 7, The fate of evil, Captain Phillips, the Expendables, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: The Final Battle And Kong: Skull Island.

Below is his son Zac’s statement.

I am deeply saddened to announce that my father, Jacques Haitkin, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the age of 72 in San Francisco, California after a long and courageous battle with ALS and leukemia. Despite the difficulties he faced, his spirit remained steadfast until the end. I take solace in the fact that he is now at peace and in a better place with my mother, Anne Coffey, and that they are finally together again.
You will be greatly missed Jacques, but your spirit will forever inspire us all. All the memories we shared and the lessons you taught me are things I will never forget. I am the man I am today because you raised me that way. I love you so much and I am so grateful to have been your son
