Film Academy lifts the curtain on the production and technology industries

The Board of Directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today the establishment of the Department of Production and Technology. Comprised of approximately 400 individuals previously classified as Members-at-Large, it represents members who work in key technical and production positions at all stages of filmmaking from pre- to post-production.

Industry members include chief technology officers, senior division heads in technology and creative services, and conservation and restoration specialists. Also part of the new production and technology branch are production roles, including stunt coordinators, script supervisors, choreographers, music supervisors, colorists, production managers and associate producers.

A member of the department will be elected to the board for the 2023/2024 financial year. Click here to view the Academy membership requirements to be eligible for an invitation to the Manufacturing and Technology Division.

The academy now has 18 branches representing all facets of the film industry.
