‘I’m still learning. Special thanks to @the__endo__space for everything they do. I find this Instagram an educational, interesting and safe place.’

Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue lining the uterus, the endometrium, arises in other parts of the body, causing chronic inflammation, scarring, and pelvic pain.

Endometriosis tissue outside the uterus bleeds just like the endometrium.

According to womenshealth.gov, this can cause swelling and pain as the tissue grows and bleeds in an area where it cannot easily exit your body†

What is endometriosis? How does the condition turn into pelvic pain and internal scarring?

Endometriosis is an often painful condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus — the endometrium — grows outside the uterus.

It most commonly affects the tissue lining the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvis.

The main symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, but many women also experience cramps during their menstrual cycle.

Symptoms also include painful periods, pain during intercourse, pain in the bowels or while urinating, inflammation, excessive bleeding, and infertility.

Often misdiagnosed, many women discover they have the condition while undergoing treatment for infertility.

About half of women with endometriosis have difficulty conceiving.

While studies on the link between endometriosis and miscarriage are still ongoing, more recent research suggests that the condition may put patients at greater risk of miscarriage.

Lizzie said it’s important to remember that people do “bullshit” behind closed doors, even if their problems don’t show up right away.
