All Creatures Great and Small: Anna Madeley wears burgundy jacket and pinstripe skirt as season 4 kicks off in Yorkshire

Filming for the fourth season of All Creatures Great And Small has begun.

And Anna Madeley wore a burgundy blazer with a pinstripe skirt as she returned to the role the matriarch of Skeldale House, Mrs Hall.

Arriving on set in Yorkshire, the 46-year-old actress had her brunette hair styled into a vintage updo and sported a subtle make-up look.

She was joined in town by other actors dressed in period clothing who waved to a boy as he rode by on a bicycle.

Elsewhere, a man on horseback was seen with sandbags piled high on a cart.

The show takes place during the Second World War and is based on the memoirs of vet Alf Wight – written under the pseudonym James Herriot.

The historical drama follows the life of vet James who moved to the Yorkshire town of Darrowby in the 1930s.

The North Yorkshire town of Grassington is used as the filming location, replacing the fictional market town of Darrowby in the series.

Rachel and her family’s farm is in the small town of Airton, half an hour’s drive from Grassington.

In season three, Helen Alderson married her on-screen husband, James Herriot (played by actor Nicholas Ralph).

Last year All Creatures Great And Small was renewed for a third and fourth series.

Channel 5’s Sebastian Cardwell said of the double series order: “It’s clear that our viewers love James Herriot’s adventures in Darrowby, and so do we at Channel 5.

“I look forward to us all being reunited with the Skeldale House family when Season 3 hits our screens this year.”

Executive producer Louise Pedersen, CEO of All3Media International, said: “All Creatures Great and Small has proven to be the perfect treat for viewers around the world looking for a top-quality production with a warm and positive outlook on the world.

“We are excited to be able to offer these new ranges to build the brand globally.”

Announcing a third and fourth season, Alf Wight’s children, Jim Wight and Rosie Page, said: “For many years the books of James Herriot have brought comfort to tens of thousands of people around the world at difficult times in their lives.

“This latest adaptation of his books has introduced a new generation to the joys of the Herriot stories.

“We are delighted that there will be at least two more series of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and we are especially excited to have the same outstanding cast and producers on board.”

The books have never sold out and have become a global cultural phenomenon with devoted fans around the world.

With a sharp focus on the importance of community, the world and spirit of James is a much-needed antidote to the challenges of our modern age, transporting viewers to a gentle past populated by beautifully realized characters.

All Creatures Great And Small will soon return to Channel 5 in the UK and PBS’ Masterpiece streaming service in the US.
