Kelis took to Instagram to share the loss of her husband Mike Mora on the anniversary of his death on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old singer opened up about how her journey to wellness was affected after her husband of nearly a decade died aged 37 after a long battle with stage IV stomach cancer.

In the three-part clip, the Bounty & Full founder explains that during her first pregnancy, her focus was on farming and wellness.

Shortly after giving birth to her third child in 2020, the photographer was diagnosed with cancer.

The milkshake hitmaker revealed that they then became more involved in the scrutiny they put into their bodies.

“It’s been exactly a year,” Kelis wrote in the caption of her post. “I think it’s crazy.

“I’m generally a very private person, especially when it comes to family,” she continued. “But the impact and development that my husband’s death had on my life cannot be denied.

“I get asked all the time how I started this journey,” she said before opening up about the story in her video. “This is a much longer conversation, but in short, what we explored here led me to such a deep understanding of our bodies and how our minds and emotions are so intertwined that you can’t do one without the other. not. ” others treat.

“Our thoughts and intentions are just as powerful and important as the health and condition of our skin,” she said. “I want to live well, and here I share what I believe to be true.

“I just wanted to eat well,” she recalls how she was introduced to nutrition and wellness. “When I got pregnant, I really started to care and think about it.”

The couple had two sons – Knight, 13, and Shepherd, seven – and a daughter – Galilea, two – before Mora was told he had just 18 months to live.

With ongoing chemotherapy and treatments, Kelis said, they began exploring other options, such as hyperbaric chambers and ozone therapy.

Mora started ozone therapy – which Kelis described as “groundbreaking” – but unfortunately the tumor came back and “started to spread”.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, ozone therapy has been poorly studied and there is little data to indicate whether it is safe or effective. However, the so-called therapy can carry significant health risks.

The songwriter then recalled meeting a “beautiful, brilliant” man who had invented the hyperbaric chamber and recommended a mushroom recipe for them to eat.

‘We [didn’t] know where to go,” said the entrepreneur. “We go to doctors for things that don’t make sense.”

As a result of those events, Kelis said she started making what she called “brain food” and rebranded her sauce company Bounty & Full to also focus more on lifestyle and wellness aspects.

She explained that it was too late for her husband to make these changes and see the benefits, but she began incorporating more superfoods and nutrients into her family’s diet.

The Kaleidoscope singer added that the reason she lives on a farm in a rural area is because “stress kills”.

“Every doctor we saw, every specialist, every nutritionist, every person we found who had some expertise in this area said, ‘Stress kills,'” she said.

“I moved to the farm and we wanted to isolate ourselves from all the stupid things that made us stressed and worried and anxious and all the things that didn’t really matter,” she continued.
