“I’d be lying if I said we don’t feel infinitely prosperous and proud of where we are and what we’ve accomplished, especially over the past year,” Hellman told Deadline. “We have curated an ongoing list of critical and commercially valuable individuals who have not only come to the fore on the platform, but have in several cases actually been at the center of the cultural conversation. In a few months, especially on the limited side, we launch Dopesick, Pam and Tommy, The Dropout Y A Plainville girl, Everyone found quite a large audience and everyone broke the noise of the crowded scenery. let’s begin candy Next Monday and off we go conversations with friends after a while. We’re in a great place to be creative, and we’re genuinely excited about what we’ve been missing. It really feels like the shame of wealth. “We are delighted to see how voters will react to these titles.”

Deadline: what a success! fairy craft Does it mean Hulu?

hell man: We were very fortunate that this show was a success early in the transition to the originals. I think it was a beacon for the creators and for the city as a whole. He said we were a destination committed to creating quality programming and I also think he gave us the confidence to make some bold programming decisions. There is also a direct line from Handmaid’s Tale to The Act and The Great and many other exclusive series which I think were great steps in further defining our brand. The bridesmaid was truly a gift that keeps on giving. There has been a lot of gossip and speculation in recent years about falling under the Disney umbrella and what it means for Hulus. The truth is, it gave us more access and opportunities to interact with the creators we were already pursuing. The way these projects came together would never have happened if it wasn’t for Dana Walden and Synergy and the constant communication between Disney Studios and our Hull. This has not only led to some positive successes in recent years, but has also really simplified the way of doing business that didn’t exist before. One of the responses I constantly get from our creative partners is how well they support the marketing of their shows. I think it speaks directly to this focus and emphasis on storytelling. When we start the shows, we think the audience is ready for it. Shannon Ryan, who oversees all of Disney Television’s marketing efforts, leads an amazing team that I think truly embodies the same spirit of creator and storyteller, first and foremost, that we take on the creative side.

What sets Hulu apart from other streamers?

hell man: The main differentiator is leadership continuity. The Hulu Originals senior management team has remained essentially unchanged from the day I arrived. When opportunities arise, we always move forward from within. The absolute work and study led by Craig Erwich has been going on for nearly seven years. In Billy Rosenberg, who is our comedy director, and Sasha Silver, who is our drama director, I have these true partners and colleagues who have worked with me for over half a decade and have been truly integral components of our continued success. . . I think there is an almost unspoken trust and understanding between the four of us and our team as to what constitutes the Hulu original. I think it’s like the creators and the talent we work with.

Hulu really preferred these authentic crime stories. Why do you choose this genre?

hell man: The long tradition of biographies and bioseries exists in both the film and television space. I think one of the reasons audiences and creators are particularly drawn to them is that, on a purely conceptual level, they have the easiest way to break through the clutter and make noise. I also think they allow us to reflectively look at ourselves as a culture, or recreate the contextualization of where we are with modern lenses. We’ve had an incredibly successful series with stories like this one. We will certainly continue to plan in this direction, but I think it is very important not to repeat it. This is a pillar within a much broader content strategy. We are equally, if not more, focused on raising the prices of our adult animation as we expand the diversity of our current dramas and comedies.

Was it raining on their parade that HBO Max was already planning its actual crime series about Candy Montgomery, a Texas woman who brutally murdered Betty Gore in 1980?

Damn man: We had already worked out the writers room when HBO Max announced their room. For us it was “Let’s take a look at the prize”. We will put on the best possible show and blink at what’s going on in the outside world.

Production began in the fifth season. fairy craft. Will it be the sixth?

Damn man: Obviously, there is a commercial reason for doing more. This show is a rare bird whose audience grows from year to year. When it comes to creative or artistic reasons, this really goes for Bruce Miller, Elizabeth Moss and Warren Littlefield. I think the most important thing for all of us is to give the Gilead story time to complete the journey. მეტი Nothing more, nothing less. They deserved the right to arbitrate him.

What state are you in? The The devil in the white city Adapted from Eric Larson’s 2003 book?

It has been a labor of love for many of us at Hulu. Given this ambition and its scope, we are incredibly thinking about the best way to resist. Obviously we weren’t in a hurry. Sam Shaw, who is the showrunner for a small army of producers, did a great job with the scripts. They amply justify the source material, but also refer to themes and problems of that time and place that simply weren’t explored in Larson’s book. We brought in Todd Field, who is one of the best American directors to direct, and we’re currently talking to a really inspired and perhaps unexpected actor to help us make it happen. This is very special and we cannot be fooled.

Which drivers are you most excited about?

We recently put together a pilot called Bammas with our friends from ABC Signature who couldn’t wait. This is the next step in our strategy to give artists the opportunity to show the world what they’re made of. It feels like a natural progression from something like Pen-15 or Ramy. We’re also going to produce a pleasure seeking story that’s such a wild and big change. He is also an ABC signer and comes from this brilliant British novelist named Richard Mason. It is a sumptuous and erotic period musical set in Amsterdam at the turn of the century. I remember the first time I read it, I was so amazed that I had never experienced anything like it. We also recently announced two direct orders from our partners on the 20th, we were lucky enough to come over to Erica Lipes and Thomas Kyle and join us with Joey King. This playground was truly one of the best and most exciting things I have heard in all these years of doing this. And Lee Daniels will write and direct a limited series about the life of Sam Dave Jr., which will not only be super fun, but will also explore elements of his life and his creativity. So a lot happens here. And you wouldn’t be foolish not to call Rob Mills and Beliza Balaban, who oversee the unwritten side of our business. They did a great job of keeping the best documents in class stable. We have truly become a place where a Kardashian-style giant feels good.
