Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis And Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro were among the screen winners at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ 70th Annual Golden Reel Awards, held Sunday night at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. See the full list below.
Oscar Nominee for Best Picture Top Gun: Maverick by Paramount and Warner Bros. elvis won for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing, Cinematic Effects/Foley, and Music Editing for a Feature Film. Netflix Animated Film Oscar-Hopeful pinocchio, After dominating Saturday’s Annie Awards, he took home the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Game Animation.
Two more Best Picture Oscar nominees: Netflix No news from the western front and searchlight The Banshees of Inisherin – also picked up trophies, as well as the film documentation Good night Oppie from Amazon and monday dream of neon and HBO documentaries.
Among the small screen winners at MPSE’s first in-person awards ceremony since 2020 was that of Netflix strange things – the only film or TV show to claim two Golden Reels – and love, death + robot, who received four Annie Awards on Saturday. Other TV winners included The bear, the crown And Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.
Sony video game God of War Ragnarok was the only double other Golden Reel winner tonight.
Elsewhere, Jerry Bruckheimer accepted the MPSE’s Filmmaker Award presented by Top Gun: Maverick Director Joe Kosinski and star producer Tom Cruise, the latter in a taped introduction. The Career Achievement Award went to recording engineer Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, three-time Oscar nominee for Avatar: The Way of Water, Tron And avatar.
“Sound editors play a critical role in bringing movies, TV shows and games to life,” said MPSE President Mark Lanza in his opening remarks. “We’ve seen incredible sound editing this year. From the explosive action of blockbusters to the subtle nuances of character-driven drama, sound editors have demonstrated the power of sound to engage, entertain and move us.”
Founded in 1953, the Motion Picture Sound Editors is a non-profit group of professional sound and music editors working in the film, television and game industries.
