Broadway Ties ‘Fat Ham’ Among Obie Award Recipients – Full List of Winners

The Broadway bound comedy Thick ham and Shakespeare in the parks happy women is one of this year’s recipients of the 66th Obie Awards, which honor Off and Off-Off-Broadway productions.

Presented by the American Theater Wing, the Obies will be presented Monday night at a ceremony in Terminal 5 in Manhattan. The Sustained and Lifetime Achievement winners will receive their awards at the ceremony, while comments from all other winners will be featured on the American Theater Wing’s YouTube channel.

The final Obies ceremony was virtual and aired on Wing’s YouTube channel on July 14, 2020.

“For this OBIES, judges reviewed more than 400 productions, including digital and audio works, created during the pandemic over the past three seasons,” Heather Hitchens, president and CEO, said in a statement. “We look forward to finally coming together in person to celebrate the artistic excellence and resilience of the amazing artists and theater companies that make up the Off and Off-Broadway community.”

James Ijames’s Thick ham, a Pulitzer Prize winner that opened Off Broadway at the Public Theater in 2022, presents Hamlet as a black, gay Southern college student who is visited by his father’s ghost at a family’s backyard kitchen. The Broadway production begins previews at the American Airlines Theater on March 21st, with an official opening on April 12th.
