The BAFTA Film Awards return to a new home tonight at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre, with this year’s nominees gracing the red carpet. Scroll down for photos.
The awards ceremony will be moderated by Richard E. Grant (taking over for Rebel Wilson). The celebrations will start around 17:45 local time. BBC One will begin broadcasting on the spot an hour later at 7pm and, in a BAFTA premiere, the televised program will conclude with the live unveiling of four categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Film and the EE Rising Star- award. hosted by Lashana Lynch.
In previous years, the event was pre-recorded and broadcast with a time delay.
The show opens with a musical performance by actress and artist Ariana DeBose (Hamilton, Westworld, West Side Story). DeBose returns to the BAFTA stage just a year after winning the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West side story. BAFTA said DeBose’s performance will feature “contemporary music” “inspired by this year’s nominees.”
Other major plans for the evening include a performance by Mercury Prize-winning rapper Little Simz, and Dame Helen Mirren will pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The nominations for this year’s film awards are led by Netflix’s German-language World War I drama No news from the western frontwith 14 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Adapted Screenplay.
All quiet Trek equals Ang Lee’s previous record Crouching tiger hidden dragon for the most nominations for a non-English language film in BAFTA history. All Quiet has also received the most BAFTA nominations for a single film since then The king’s speech in 2011 with also 14.
