ABC host Leigh Sales shares the tragic reason she hasn’t returned to the set of 7:30 Report since being fired

Leigh Sales stepped down after 12 years in the role to host the ABC Report 7:30 in June so she could spend more time with her young sons.

And on Sunday, the journalist revealed she never returned to the Sydney studio after her good friend Mick Walters, a long-time cameraman, died of cancer at 7.30pm in August.

“We worked together intensively every day for years. I really don’t know how I could have gone back into the studio after his death,” she told ABC.

“I avoid approaching this area because it’s like a slap in the face. Mick’s not in our old Green Room eating his chicken chips and hitting on me,” she added.

Shortly after his death, Sales posted a loved-up photo of the couple together in the studio on Instagram and captioned it with some sweet words.

Sarah Ferguson, who replaced Sales, continues to present The 7.30 Report.

Meanwhile, TV Blackbox reports that ABC will launch a new season of their current flagship Four Corners on January 30.

And after a difficult year of declining ratings, the network’s latest panel show, Q&A, will also return on January 30, hosted by Stan Grant.

It comes after Sales quit her high-profile gig Host of ABC’s 7.30 on June 30.

She later revealed that she will use her six-month official leave to “rest” and spend quality time with her two sons, James and Daniel.

Caroline Jones was the original presenter of Australian Story but sadly died in May aged 84 after a fall at her home in Sydney.
