Taron Egerton gets caught up in an international thriller in the trailer for the wild, true story behind the wildly popular video game Tetris

Taron Egerton pursues the rights to an iconic video game in the trailer for the new movie Tetris.

Set to be released on AppleTV+, Tetris revolves around Egerton’s character trying to buy the Tetris video game from its creator, who lives in the Soviet Union.

In addition to the Rocketman actor, Harry Potter actor Toby Jones, The Fast and the Furious actor Rick Yune and The Crown star Ben Miles will also perform.

The Tetris trailer opens with Egerton’s character Henk Rogers describing Tetris as the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

“I played for five minutes,” he explains as stacked Tetris blocks tumble around him. “I still see falling blocks in my dreams.”

Deal: Taron Egerton wants to buy the rights to an iconic video game in the trailer for the new movie Tetris

Yune’s character Larry replies that he just doesn’t see the appeal of the game until Europe’s The Final Countdown starts playing via the trailer.

Rogers then arrives at a building where he is told that only “ten other people in the world” have seen the invention unveiled before him.

“It’s called Game Boy,” Miles’ character Howard Lincoln tells Rogers. Rogers says he wants to bundle the game with Tetris and promises to get the rights.

To do this, Rogers must travel behind the Iron Curtain to meet the inventor in the Soviet Union.

He is warned about the dangers of the USSR by a man on the phone, but hangs up without taking the warning too seriously.

He then explains the risks he’s taking to his wife, who doesn’t seem too keen at first, but changes her tone when he shows her how focused their children are on Tetris.

Rogers travels to Moscow and tells the game’s creator, Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov), that he intends to make him a millionaire.

However, the country’s communist tendencies mean that Rogers must deal with both Pajitnov and the USSR, which is unwilling to cooperate with Rogers.
