Nigel Harman joins the cast of Casualty.
The former EastEnders actor, 49, plays Max Cristie, Holby ED’s new clinical lead, in the BBC medical drama, who has been described as a “lovable villain who lives by his own rules”.
Although everyone wants to be treated by him, not all employees will be happy to see the new employee, especially the current clinical director Dylan (played by Will Beck), who is not happy to see a face from the past again .
It’s clear from the start that the couple has an unresolved history that will soon extend to medical school.
However, there is no time for niceties in this job and before long Max finds himself in the heat of the moment on his first shift – from the outset it is a matter of life and death.
Exciting: Nigel Harman has joined the cast of Casualty. The former Downton Abbey star is set to play a clinical lead in the BBC drama
Viewers will see Nigel on screen as Max later this month and it’s safe to say he will make a big impact on the hospital.
The former Downton Abbey star said of his new role: “I am honored and grateful to be joining the cast of Casualty. Many friends have had fun wearing the famous frocks over the years, so it was an easy decision for me.
With Max, the viewer can expect a character who leads with the heart and not always with the head. Not afraid of scratches, but faithful to the end, even if it means putting yourself in danger.”
Jon Sen, Executive Producer at BBC Studios said: “We are delighted to welcome Nigel to the cast of Casualty.
“When we came up with the character of Max, we knew we needed an actor with skill, charm and charisma, and we turned to Nigel because we knew he would be the perfect choice.
“We were over the moon when he agreed to take on the role and from what we’ve seen so far, Nigel is creating an iconic character who is about to kick things off in the emergency room. We can’t wait for the audience to meet Max.”
Casualty, the world’s longest-running prime-time medical drama series, is an ongoing drama production from BBC Studios for BBC One and iPlayer and continues on Saturdays.
BBC Studios executive producer is Jon Sen and series producer is Liza Mellody. Rebecca Ferguson is the editor-in-chief of the BBC.

Ouch: Although everyone wants to be treated by him, not all staff members will be excited to see the new addition, especially the current clinical chief, Dylan (played by Will Beck).
