The Peabody Awards are officially moving their annual awards ceremony to Los Angeles, three years after the plan was originally announced, which was ultimately halted by the Covid pandemic.
The organization announced Thursday that it will honor the winners on June 11, 2023 at Beverly Wilshire. This is the first time the awards, presented annually by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, have been held in LA.
On previous occasions, the ceremony was held in person at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. This year marks the first in-person event since 2019 for the awards, which honor the year’s stories that “best reflect the most pressing social issues and vibrant, emerging voices of our time” in entertainment, documentary, news, podcast/radio, arts, children and young people, immersive and interactive media, and public service programs.
“Moving the Peabody Awards to Los Angeles, a city practically built on the power of storytelling, is an exciting advancement in Peabody’s commitment to collecting the most powerful and poignant stories across broadcast and digital media. be told,” said Jeffrey Jones, executive director of Peabody. . “Los Angeles gives us the opportunity to reinvent the awards ceremony and include more talent and hosts in a ceremony that promises to be nothing short of phenomenal.”
The nominees for the 83rd edition of the awards will be announced in April and the winners in May.
The LA ceremony is produced by Bob Bain Productions, the company that also produced the Critics Choice Awards, the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony and the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, among others.
