To add some color to the drab outfit, she added a bold red clutch bag and pretty matching lipstick.

It comes after Ruth confessed she “thinks about having a baby every day”.

She said she has “a lot of children in my life” that she adores, but sees both the “pros and cons” of raising her own children.

The Affair star is currently on hiatus from her American writer boyfriend – who she previously refused to name – after a busy few years in her career working on the His Dark Materials series, filming and theater productions.

When Ruth was asked in an interview with the new edition of the Radio Times if she wanted a baby, she replied: “I think about it every day. I see the pros and cons every day.

“I have a lot of cousins, so I have a lot of children in my life and I love children. It’s just… it changes your life completely. So yes, I think about it a lot.’

The actress is the youngest of four children; Her three older brothers all have children of their own, and her parents – investment banker father Nigel and probation officer mother Mary – have been married for more than 40 years.

As a result, the film star has previously said she has “no role model to live my life by” and finds the baby question “really annoying”.

Ruth said in an interview with ES Magazine in 2016: “My mother had four children my age and all my brothers imitated my parents’ marriage – they have children and are settled.

“I don’t really have an example to live by. I feel like I’m a little alone and have to shape it along the way. My parents’ lives were in one place, static and perhaps routine, and my life was not.

“Sometimes I’m like, ‘God, I really want to have some kids,’ and sometimes it’s, ‘No, no.’ For a woman my age, this is a constant debate – and in turn very annoying to deal with because it defines relationships and how to approach them.

“Life will take its course and you have to believe that things happen for a reason. I’m pretty laissez-faire and I’m happy the way I am now.’

In a 2018 interview with Radio Times magazine, Ruth said that if she wanted a child later in life, she was willing to “adopt, or there are other options.”

She explained: “I think about it differently every day. The interesting thing about women is that we are aware that time is running out and part of us dies of puberty.

“I feel like whatever happens, happens. We will have more opportunities to have children later. If I really want a child, can I adopt or are there other options.

“At the same time, if I don’t have a child, that decision won’t be judged the way it used to be. Times change.’

The Golden Globe-winning actress has previously claimed that some women’s focus on marriage is “depressing”.

In February she told The Sunday Times Magazine: “I personally have no interest in walking through a church in a white dress.

‘[There are women] with the exact same ring on their finger and talking about their bachelor parties. You think that’s all they live for. It feels so depressing.

“Honestly, it was never something I really wanted or even thought about.

“How long does love last? Can it really last a lifetime? People expect forever, and when it doesn’t work out, they’re kind of surprised.”
