The Screen Actors Guild announced the nominations for its 29th annual SAG Awards on Wednesday as movie awards season hits were out in full force, the same week as the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards last night.
This year’s Large Ensemble Film Awards category includes Paramount’s Babylonsearchlight The Banshees by InisherinA24s Everything, everywhere, all at onceuniversal The Fables and United Artists women talk. Banshees and Fabelmans are having a good week and took home the best picture awards at the Globes last night.
Other notable nominees on the This Morning on the Movies side include some who have already made headlines this season: Cate Blanchett joined Michelle Yeoh, Viola Davis, Ana de Armas and Danielle Deadwyler in the lead actress race, while in the Actor category Austin Butler and Colin Farrell consists of and Brendan Fraser joins Bill Nighy and Adam Sandler, the latter in front in a hurry.
Last year, the SAG Awards helped introduce several eventual Oscar winners KODA in the Major Cast Ensemble category alongside Jessica Chastain, Will Smith, Ariana DeBose and Troy Kotsur, who all took home Oscars.
In the TV categories, this morning two new ensemble winners will be crowned with last year’s winners successor and Teddy Lasso are not allowed for this round. This leaves a dramatic field with AMC’s final season of You better call Saulthat of Netflix The crown and osarkApple TV+s dismissal and HBO’s The White Lotus. In comedy, ABCs Abbot Primary SchoolHBO/HBO max barry and CapFXing The bear and that of Hulu Only dead in the building is underway.
Following today’s SAG nominations, winners in the Guild’s 15 acting categories will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, February 26 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The SAG Awards made news this morning on this date, announcing that Netflix has come on board to stream the show on its platform from 2024, replacing the old TNT and TBS. This year, the ceremony will be streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel.
