Controversial Norwegian black metal band Taake’s February Australian tour has been cancelled.

The Bergen band has been accused of encouraging extremist rhetoric at shows, with singer Hoest taking to the stage in 2007 with a swastika painted on his chest.

Concert promoter Southern Extremities released a statement on Facebook on Friday saying the band’s 2023 tour with American rock band AKHLYS has been cancelled.

They wrote: “The upcoming TAAKE/AKHLYS tour has been canceled due to reasons beyond our control.

“Apologies to ticket holders/people wanting to see these 2 performances, you will receive an update and a full refund from your ticket company.”

Many fans were quick to express their disappointment that the shows were cancelled.
