EXCLUSIVE: After news broke today on the fanboy pages that Deadpool’s Tim Miller has replaced Eli Roth in the long-running Lionsgate vidgame adaptation border areas, let Deadline give you some insight into what’s really going on. Roth turned over the management of two weeks of rehearsals to his friend Miller because he had to get to work Thanksgivingthe horror film based on a fake trailer that Roth made for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez gravel house Movie. Roth was not fired despite a flurry of speculative reports to the contrary.
the Thanksgiving Trailer presented the gory teaser about a pseudo-movie in which a slasher makes his own chopping board from the residents of a Massachusetts town who make a fuss over the annual Turkey Day. One of the defining scenes involved Roth himself, breaking headlong into the rope of passion with a date in a convertible. It was so popular that plans were made to turn it into a long bloodfest with Roth at the helm, but it’s been 15 years since the original gravel house let go and you can be forgiven for thinking that Thanksgiving would never come.
It is here. Filming begins in March with a script by Jeff Rendell and Spyglass behind it. Roger Birnbaum and Roth produced.
Deadline has learned that Miller will reshoot for several weeks in an amicable handover of the baton border areaswhich took a long time to make it to the big screen.
In the film Lilith (played by Cate Blanchett before filming Taright, the movie that made her best actress), a notorious outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the most powerful SOB Atlas in the universe (Edgar Ramirez). Lilith joins forces with an unexpected team: Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), an emaciated pre-teen robber; War (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s muscular, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a poor sense of common sense; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wise robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous prisoners to find and protect the missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe may be in their hands, but they will fight for something more: each other.
Based on the game from Gearbox and 2K, one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, and written by Craig Mazin and Roth. Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing through their banner, Arad Productions, and Erik Feig is also producing through PictureStart. The film is produced by Randy Pitchford, executive producer of the film border areas video game franchise and founder of Gearbox Entertainment Company, and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.
