‘I’d be over the moon’: Dermot O’Leary reveals he would love to host This Morning for another decade

Dermot O’Leary has revealed that he would like to host This Morning for another ten years.

The 49-year-old presenter took over as co-presenter of the Friday slot with Alison Hammond in January 2021.

He told The Mirror: “It’s a beautiful thing. If someone says to me “You’re doing Friday for the next 10 years”. I would be delighted. I love it.’

It comes after Dermot revealed he and Alison were forced to have a “really candid” conversation following an “awkward moment on air” which came shortly after they took over as co-hosts.

Doting dad Dermot explained that he and Alison were “thrown together with no time to prepare.”

Dermot said: “We literally met for the first time in about 15 years and that morning we hosted two and a half hours of live television together.”

Rockin’ start: It comes after Dermot revealed he and Alison were forced to have a “really candid” conversation following an “awkward moment on air” which happened shortly after taking over as co-hosts

Dermot added that he and Alison “both did something the other didn’t like,” and said he and his co-host were forced to hash things out.

Speaking to The Sun last year, he explained: “We both did something the other didn’t like – nothing big – but after it happened we looked at each other and I said, ‘You didn’t liked it when I did it. did it?”

And she said no, she didn’t. And I said, “Okay, I didn’t like it when you did that.”

He added: “And we both laughed because now we knew. The most important thing is to find out what upsets the other person and make sure you don’t do it again.’

Dermot added that he now sees Alison “like a sister” and that the two now “have each other’s backs”.

The veteran TV host also noted that he and Alison now “know each other’s rhythms and nuances” and that their co-host act “feels very natural.”

ITV announced last year that Dermot and Alison would replace Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on the Friday slot of This Morning.

Eamonn and Ruth, who hosted the Friday morning slot for 14 years, now present the Monday to Thursday ITV program during the school summer holidays.

Best friends: Dermot added that he now sees Alison “like a sister” and that the pair now “have each other’s backs”
