Sir Tony Robinson stole the show when he appeared at the Great Christmas Bake Off 2022 on Saturday night to celebrate 40 years of Channel 4.
The 76-year-old Time Team star wowed viewers with his messy performance when he nearly sent an entire tin of cake flying onto the floor in a clumsy mistake.
He later broke down in tears as he received a coveted handshake from Paul Hollywood after impressing the hard-to-please judge with his signature bowl.

Tony was joined in the tent by The Big Breakfast star Gaby Roslin, Star Baker award-winning TV star Miquita Oliver, author Terry Christian and actress Claire Sweeney.
The show’s two hosts, Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding, returned, while judges Paul and Prue Leith were on hand to deliver their verdict.
The bakers were first tasked with making eight mini-kugelcakes for the Signature Bake – but when Tony took his beetroot pies out of the oven, he almost dropped them on the floor.

Tony described how he took her out of the oven as he nearly knocked her over before screaming in terror and quickly regaining his balance on the slab.
A few minutes later, talking about his pies, he became visibly emotional as Paul gave him enthusiastic feedback and a handshake on his beetroot pies, which he had planted in edible soil to look like a vegetable garden.
He said afterwards: “I got so emotional, I didn’t expect it.”

Next in As a technical challenge, they had to create a teardrop and share a Christmas tree with baked camembert and cranberry sauce. Gaby triumphed with a great performance.
The show was intended to celebrate Channel 4’s 40th anniversary and as such featured stars who had taken part in programs on the channel.
Next came the showstopper, which required the celebs to make a cute festive wreath out of meringue or choux pastry.

After much deliberation, Miquita was named the winner and Star Baker, who received a cake stand as a prize.
After her victory, she said: “I won! I won! I actually just won! I think it’s the number one Christmas present I’ve ever received so I’m going to hang it on the wall in my new house!’
She added: “I’m so proud, I can’t believe it!”
Oh no! Beside him, Noel had stitches as he dropped the pies almost everywhere on the tent floor

Fellow judge Prue added, “Your showstopper smashed it and I think I’ll even make it to Christmas this year!”
At the end of the episode, viewers were treated to a special performance by the English National Ballet.
