Bones crime series premieres on UNIAN Serial channel

The hit American detective series Bones will premiere on Ukrainian television channel UNIAN Serial on August 12 at 20:30.

The show, which stands as one of the most successful crime procedurals of the 21st century, will air in a daily evening timeslot. Over its 12 years on television, the production built a massive global audience and achieved a 7.8 user rating on IMDb.

Originally debuting in 2005, the series ran for 12 seasons and 246 episodes before concluding in 2017. The extended broadcast run established Bones as one of the longest-running criminal procedural dramas in American network television history.

The central storyline follows Dr. Temperance Brennan, a brilliant forensic anthropologist based at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Forensic anthropology is the scientific study of human skeletal remains for legal and criminal investigations. Brennan is brought in to assist the Federal Bureau of Investigation when victims' remains are so severely decomposed or damaged that only bones remain, rendering conventional forensic methods ineffective.

Brennan works alongside FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, a former military officer who relies on personal intuition and human psychology rather than scientific data. Together, the contrasting investigators form one of the most famous detective partnerships in modern television history.

Lead Cast and Screen Chemistry

Actors Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz star as the primary investigative duo. For Deschanel, playing Dr. Brennan became the breakout role that brought her global fame, following earlier appearances in major feature films such as the 2003 American civil war drama Cold Mountain and the 2004 superhero blockbuster Spider-Man 2.

David Boreanaz joined the cast as an established television star, having earned widespread recognition for his starring roles in the cult supernatural drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel. His involvement was a major factor in drawing high public attention ahead of the series premiere back in 2005.

During the initial casting process, producers noticed an immediate natural dynamic between Deschanel and Boreanaz, leading to their prompt selection for the lead roles. Television critics and viewers later cited the screen chemistry between the two actors as the primary strength of the show.

Real-Life Inspiration and Book Reversal

The main character of Temperance Brennan was inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and author Kathy Reichs. Reichs's extensive professional background in crime scene analysis and her series of forensic mystery novels provided the foundation for the television series.

The creators incorporated a clever play on reality into the narrative. In the television show, the fictional Dr. Brennan writes crime novels featuring an anthropologist named Kathy Reichs. In real life, the relationship is reversed, as the actual Kathy Reichs authors the best-selling mystery books centered on character Temperance Brennan.

Genre Blend and Notable Cameos

Bones gained popularity by blending police procedural investigation with drama, comedy, and a long-term romantic relationship between Brennan and Booth. That central romantic arc developed gradually over multiple seasons, keeping fans engaged throughout the show's 12-year run.

The production also features memorable guest appearances, notably by Billy Gibbons, the legendary guitarist of the American rock band ZZ Top, who plays the father of main character Angela Montenegro. The show frequently jokes about the character's strong resemblance to the famous musician, making his recurring appearances among the most celebrated cameos of the series.

The supporting cast achieved its own milestone during the run of the show. Prosecutor Caroline Julian, played as a recurring character, set a production record by becoming the only secondary character to appear in all 12 seasons of Bones.

Bones will air daily on UNIAN Serial starting August 12 at 20:30.
