Will Smith reveals he weighed 195 lbs. After losing 30 lbs. Slave in “Emancipation”

Will Smith he was accompanied by his children Trey SmithJaden Smith Y Willow Smith for a special RedTableTalk acquisition of his new film, emancipation, on December 14th. At the panel discussion, which was streamed on Facebook Watch, the kids asked Will what it was like to play a slave in the film, which is streaming on Apple TV+. Jaden specifically asked Will about the “physics” of the role and wondered what her father went through to “get it.” [his] body okay. He also noted that Willow noticed that the actor was “getting thinner and thinner” during filming.

“He was probably around 225 years old. [pounds] when I started and by the end of the movie I hit 195,” Will revealed, confirming his 30-pound weight loss. “For me, physicality is a big part of what makes people WOW! Being able to transition and manipulate your body as an actor is a big part of people’s suspensions of disbelief. And actually being in the swamp… it’s hot, it’s disgusting, you’re in the swamp, your hands are dirty… so you don’t really want to pick up food and eat.

In May 2021, Will posted a photo of himself on Instagram and stated that he was in the “worst shape” of his life. In the RTT extension interview, he admitted that this photo was “the beginning [his] preparing to lose weight” to play Peter emancipation🇧🇷 “This is the body that has carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing in the pantry,” Will explained in a second Instagram post, where he posed shirtless. “I love this body, but I want to FEEL better. No more midnight muffins… that’s all. I will get into the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!!!!!!”

He has partnered with YouTube to create a new series called The best shape of my life, which aired in November. The series followed Will as he attempted to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks, while simultaneously working on his memoir (the book was released on November 9, 2021). Throughout his journey on the show, Will not only transformed himself physically, but he also delved into his mental health, learning what he needed to work on in that aspect of himself as well.
