With Christmas and New Year approaching, the desire for sequins and “jewel” nail-art is back in full swing. This year the trend is velvet effect nails, a manicure inspired by the iridescent reflections and velvety texture of this stellar winter fabric. And we say yes: us and the millions of people who saw the hashtag #VelvetNails on TikTok.
What is velvet manicure?
To get the famous velvet effect, you don’t need to glue strips of fabric on your nails! It is achieved by using magnetic enamel, or specific products called “cat’s eye” paint or “cat’s eye” in French. They contain particles which, in the vicinity of a magnet, settle on the still wet lacquer and give a structured appearance to the manicure.
A technique that can be performed in the salon but also at home if you have the right equipment.
