This fall, we’re seeing the return of one of the major nail trends of the 2000s: BlackBerry nails. What is it, and what does Charli XCX have to do with it?
Black manicure in autumn is an eternal trend. But in recent years, the popularity of this shade has noticeably declined – the rules of the game in makeup and nail art are mainly determined by the clean girl aesthetics with its pastel and nude tones, minimalism and emphasis on sparkle. This summer, everything turned upside down when singer Charli XCX released Brat. The brat girl aesthetic turned out to be the exact opposite of the “naive girl”; bold, hooligan and far from ideal.
What are BlackBerry nails?
BlackBerry is a successful phone manufacturing company in the early 2000s. Smartphones were also called “blackberries” because of their characteristic color tones. And their owners loved to choose a manicure that matched the color of their phone. From Rihanna and Avril Lavigne to Victoria Beckham, all the celebrities wore short black nails. And now, the rave culture of the 2000s and the short black nail trend are back thanks to Charli XCX. We plan to spend this fall wearing all black.
