Never before have there been such diverse subcultures as now. It-girls, e-boys, witchtok, tumblr-girl, bimbo – we definitely owe TikTok to the emergence of new movements or the revival of forgotten old ones. And of course, Zoomer nostalgia for a time when they didn’t live or were too young to remember. A particularly striking (not just because of color) revival of a long-forgotten subculture can be seen in the Bimbo example.
British magazine iD has named 2021 as the Year of Bimbo and Refinery29 has announced that Bimbo is permanent. The style of modern representatives of this subculture is Paris Hilton, the protagonist of Reese Witherspoon from the movie Legally Blonde, Rachel McAdams from Mean Girls is an homage to the glamorous zero, for which she received the title of main slut. However, as is usually the case, the outlook remained the same and the values became new in keeping with the times.
We think it’s impossible to find a better occasion to talk about the bimbo subculture than World Blonde Day. Therefore, below you will learn how bimbo has become a trend of our time as a synonym for “attractive but stupid young girl” and what real representatives of this subculture look like.
The history of the bimbo revival
At first, the term “bimbo” had nothing to do with blondes and frivolity. It appeared in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century – supposedly cruel and unreasonable men. But with the advent of the 2000s, the word “bimbo” has become almost synonymous with an attractive girl who loves sexy, flashy clothes, pink, rhinestones and lives like a true hedonist, that is, for her own pleasure.

Thus, the stereotypical image of the “dumb” blonde was consolidated and the era of reality shows and movies featuring pink hot girls began. It continued until 2010.

However, like all subcultures, the slut has become outdated, and a new female archetype has taken its place – the girlboss (“a girl with influence”). It emerged against the background of the fourth wave of feminism that emphasized equal pay and equal opportunities for women and men. But the American Sophia Amoruso popularized the term in her autobiography of the same name. She described the new type of woman as someone who “determined her success by resisting the male business world in which she swam against the current”.

Unlike bitches, the girl of the new generation did not show her sexuality and preferred career growth and professional recognition to men. However, while this subculture was initially seen as pro-feminist and liberating, it boxed women less than before, creating a new pattern that had to be met.

Not surprisingly, a few years later this sparked a new round of popularity for bimbo culture. But now the movement focuses not only on the outside, but also on the inside. Chrissy Hlapek, one of the most famous sluts, says: “Bimbo is a confident girl who feels comfortable and doesn’t care what other people say.”
What do real bimbos look like?

While modern sluts don’t need to stick to a particular style of clothing, many continue to take their cue from the zero’s main trendsetters. And of course, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were acquaintances from the reality show The Simple Life, Elle Woods performed by Reese Witherspoon from Legally Blonde, the protagonist of Anna Faris in the comedy The Boys Like It and others.

The bimbo style of the new generation remained almost the same: shades of hot pink, glitter, lip gloss, large sunglasses, bright accessories.

The main elements by which a bitch can be recognized are the Juicy Couture sweatpants, hoop earrings, ultra-low jeans, plaid miniskirts, and cropped tops.

Zoomers added new elements to their bimbo style – moon roamers, earplugs, fluffy earplugs, heels with big soles.

A few of the modern bitches can be distinguished – Chloe Cherry, known for her role in the second season of Euphoria, American tiktoker Chrissy Chlapek. And as with all subcultures, vivid but not the best example – Alicia Amira. The girl spent more than $ 14 thousand on plastic surgery to approach the appearance of “Barbie”, so you should not judge the subculture by her.
