Excerpts from Britney Spears’ long-awaited memoir The Woman in Me are increasingly appearing in the press ahead of its release. Recently it became known that the star was pregnant with Justin Timberlake’s child at the end of 2000, but eventually had an abortion. And now Britney has announced her decision to shave her head in 2007.
At that time, Britney was already being harassed by the press, and this high-profile incident with shaving her head was used to reinforce the version of the unstable state of the star. This ultimately led to Britney being placed on probation the following year.
The star said in her memoirs that since childhood her appearance was constantly subject to public evaluation and control by adults.
“I was watched a lot as a child. “Ever since I was young, I was looked down upon and people told me what they thought of my body,” she writes in her memoirs.
This action was an act of rebellion. “Shaving my head and being aggressive were my ways of coping,” he says.
