Beauty dictionary: what is a splash mask?

Like many products with unusual names, the splash mask came to us from Korea. Someone calls it a liquid mask, and someone considers it another invention of marketers. Our “Beauty Dictionary” section has been specially created to explain in a simple and understandable language new words from the world of beauty that sound more difficult every day but are becoming more common every day. What effect should one expect from the splash mask and who needs it?

What’s this?

Translated from English, the word leap means “leap”. So, the splash mask is literally a splash mask. Its main feature is texture. It is not like clay or cream products. The splash mask is liquid such as micellar water or essence. And he needs a few seconds instead of the usual 20 minutes to act.

Why do you need a splash mask?

Earlier in Korea, there was a tradition of bathing with rice water. It moisturized and smoothed the skin. The water gathered in the palm of your hand and sprinkled on your face. This beauty ritual can be performed by Korean women up to 100 times a day to achieve the maximum moisturizing effect. Now that tradition has changed – rice water has been replaced by toners and lotions, but the method of applying them has remained the same. Girls still prefer to spray the product on their face with their palms like water instead of using cotton pads.

And so a separate K-beauty product appeared – a splash mask. Its formula may contain AHA acids (then the product gently exfoliates) or plant extracts (soothes and moisturizes). In fact, the splash mask is the same tonic or lotion, but you need to apply it with your palms, not with a cotton pad.

How is this used?

The splash mask can be used in a number of ways as an additional step in your beauty routine. One thing remains unchanged – it does not need to be washed off, like a regular mask.

Method 1:

Pour a small amount of liquid into your palm and after washing, apply the mask to wet skin with patting movements.

Method 2:

Apply an undiluted splash mask to a cotton ball and wipe the skin like a toner.

Method 3:

Add two caps of product to the bath to improve the condition of the body skin.

Method 4:

Use the mask in the shower, apply the liquid to the damp skin of the body.

Method 5:

Apply a small amount of mask to damp hair. The effect will be similar to the result after using vinegar for hair – brighter and smoother strands.

Method 6:

Dilute the splash mask with warm or cold water at a rate of one cap per 700ml of water in a small container. Wash your face with the resulting liquid, as Korean girls do – take water in your palms and splash it on your face.
