Barcelona Camp Nou documentary premieres on Movistar Plus

Spanish broadcaster Movistar Plus premiered a new 53-minute FC Barcelona documentary titled 'El Camp Nou: bienvenidos al estadio' on Monday, August 17.

The production explores the Spanish club's temporary move to Montjuïc, progress on the renovation of their iconic stadium, and features a critical swipe at former head coach Xavi Hernández.

Spanish newspaper LA RAZÓN gained advance access to the documentary, which is currently available to subscribers of the pay-television platform Movistar Plus in Spain.

The feature focuses on the team's absence from the Camp Nou while detailing the ongoing construction work designed to transform the venue into a world-class football facility.

Camp Nou renovation and team history

Beyond the ongoing stadium remodelling, the documentary reflects on historic European nights, dramatic comeback victories, and major trophy triumphs at the ground.

A strong sense of nostalgia for the old stadium runs throughout the 53-minute film, which combines rare interior footage of the Camp Nou with updates on the redevelopment progress.

FC Barcelona has played at the Camp Nou in Catalonia since 1957, with the venue undergoing extensive modernization to expand capacity and upgrade spectator facilities.

The production features exclusive interviews and testimonies from legendary club figures including former forward Leo Messi, as well as former managers Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.

Current FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick also appears in the documentary alongside first-team players Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, and Raphinha.

Barcelona Femení stars Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmatí also contribute their thoughts on the stadium's historical significance to the club.

Competitive struggles and managerial change

The documentary addresses FC Barcelona's need to return home to regain full sporting competitiveness following a period marked by performance issues.

It notes that seasons spent playing away at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc coincided with times when the team fell short of expectations.

During the ongoing redevelopment work, Barcelona relocated all home fixtures to the municipal stadium situated on the Montjuïc hill overlooking the city.

The arrival of German manager Hansi Flick is highlighted as a vital turning point to rebuild team confidence, restore European ambitions, and compete for major trophies once again.

By contrast, the production includes critical commentary directed at the era when former midfielder Xavi Hernández managed the first team.

Xavi Hernández had taken charge of the Catalan club during a turbulent financial period before leaving his role ahead of Hansi Flick's appointment.

Leo Messi and future squad plans

Former captain Leo Messi provides some of the film's most emotional moments, emphasizing his lasting bond with the Catalan stadium.

Messi expressed a strong desire to see the completed Camp Nou renovation and stated that he would like to play one final match at the venue.

Looking toward the club's new chapter, the documentary highlights midfielder Rodri as a major future signing set to play a leading role in Barcelona's upcoming project.
