Actor Will Estes is returning to play Jamie Reagan in the second season of the police drama Boston Blue, co-star Donnie Wahlberg has revealed.
Wahlberg confirmed the casting by publishing a set photograph on his Instagram story. As reported by Deadline, the image shows Wahlberg standing alongside Estes behind the scenes during production for the new season.
In his post, Wahlberg welcomed Estes back to the family in character as Jamie Reagan. The set photo also pictured co-stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen.
Estes previously spent fourteen seasons playing NYPD officer and sergeant Jamie Reagan on Blue Bloods, the popular CBS police procedural centered on a multigenerational family of New York law enforcement officers. The parent series concluded its television run in 2024 after more than a decade on air.
Original Blue Bloods cast members returning
The return of Estes marks the latest addition from the original flagship cast to appear in the spin-off series. Earlier episodes featured guest appearances by Bridget Moynahan as Danny's sister Erin Reagan, Len Cariou as family patriarch Henry Reagan, and Will Hochman as Danny's nephew Joe Hill.
Wahlberg, who played lead character Detective Danny Reagan throughout the original series, moved to the spin-off when its first season debuted in October 2025. Actress Sonequa Martin-Green, known for her starring roles in Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, joined the show as his new partner, Detective Lena Silver.
Boston Blue season 2 premiere date and plot
The second season of Boston Blue will premiere on October 9, 2026, following a promotional announcement released by network executives. In Spain, the series is distributed on subscription streaming service Movistar Plus+.
The upcoming season continues the storyline of Danny Reagan after his transfer from the New York City Police Department to the Boston Police Department. Danny and Detective Silver navigate high-stakes investigations across the city while dealing with the fallout of the first season finale.
Season two will address major cliffhangers from the season one finale, including Lena Silver recovering after being shot in the line of duty. The narrative will also resolve the fate of Silver's boyfriend, who was left submerged in water after an unidentified driver intentionally forced his vehicle off the road.
