Russian travel blogger Alexander described the city of Antigua in Guatemala as living under the constant threat of eruption from the active Fuego volcano.
Alexander shared his impressions in a post on his personal blog, titled #delaichehochesh, on the Russian content platform Zen. He noted that Fuego ranks among the most active volcanoes in the world, with regular eruptions that frequently send plumes of ash and glowing red-hot lava spilling from its crater.
According to the traveler, local residents have fully integrated the volcanic threat into their daily routine. He stated that although authorities actively monitor Fuego and maintain detailed evacuation plans, the population does not live in constant panic.
Alexander explained that residents continue working, opening cafes, raising children, and welcoming international tourists, all while seeing the smoking volcano on the horizon every day.
Colonial architecture and local culture
Many visitors consider Antigua to be the most beautiful city in Guatemala, according to the blogger. He highlighted its historic streets, colonial architecture, cozy public squares, and cafes, noting that the presence of the volcano makes the location truly unique.
In an earlier blog post, Alexander described Guatemalan residents by saying that visiting a local shaman is treated much like going to church. He explained that many people across the country continue to maintain strong traditional beliefs in spirits, healers, and sorcerers.

Antigua Guatemala, situated in the central highlands of Guatemala, is a historic city famous for its preserved Spanish colonial architecture and cobblestone streets. Located in a high-altitude valley surrounded by volcanic peaks, the city previously served as the regional capital under Spanish rule. Volcán de Fuego, whose name means Volcano of Fire, is a stratovolcano standing more than 3,700 meters high that has maintained frequent eruptive activity for centuries.
