Film sequel Wonka 2 has been postponed indefinitely because star Timothée Chalamet has no room in his schedule, according to screenwriter Simon Farnaby.
Speaking in an interview with Variety, Farnaby said the creative team still wants to make the sequel, but work on the movie is currently on hold. He explained that Chalamet became more famous after the release of the first film and received two Oscar nominations, leaving no room in his schedule for Wonka 2.
Farnaby added that Chalamet wants to play in the sequel, but the actor is not sure about the timing or what project he wants to do next.
Box Office Performance
The original Wonka movie premiered in December 2023 and tells the story of young Willy Wonka before he opened his chocolate factory. The film was a commercial success, grossing more than $634 million worldwide against a budget of $125 million.
