A massive Ukrainian drone attack hit Rostov-on-Don on August 29, injuring seven people across the region and damaging multi-story apartment buildings.
Four of the victims, including two children, were hospitalized in the regional capital, with one child reported to be in serious condition. Medics are providing all necessary care to those admitted.
The attack unfolded over several hours as Russian air defense systems engaged incoming targets across multiple districts, according to reports from the Telegram channel Shot. Local witnesses said the overnight barrage lasted for several hours without pause.
Rostov-on-Don is the administrative center of Rostov Oblast and the Southern Federal District of Russia. Home to more than one million residents, the major industrial and transport hub is situated on the Don River, approximately 32 kilometers from the Sea of Azov and close to the border with Ukraine.
Regional Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that the overnight drone strikes impacted four distinct administrative areas: the districts of Aksaysky, Bagayevsky, Neklinovsky, and Proletarsky.
Emergency Shelters and Regional Impact
In the Proletarsky district of Rostov-on-Don, two multi-story apartment buildings sustained structural damage during the bombardment, according to Rostov-on-Don Mayor Alexander Skryabin.
Mayor Skryabin said temporary accommodation centers were established for residents displaced by the drone strikes. The facilities are equipped with sleeping quarters, hot beverages, and meals, while emergency services continue active response measures across affected locations.
In the neighboring Aksaysky district, three residents sought medical assistance after drone debris crashed onto warehouse property. The falling wreckage ignited a fire in an adjacent forest belt that required emergency intervention.
In the Bagayevsky district, window glass in private residential homes was shattered by the blasts, though local authorities reported no casualties in that area.
Governor Slyusar emphasized that drone and missile alerts remained active across Rostov Oblast. He urged residents to exercise caution, move away from open streets, seek shelter inside buildings, and stay clear of windows.
Fatal Strike in Belgorod
The attack on Rostov coincided with reports of another Ukrainian strike in Belgorod Oblast, a Russian border region located north of Kharkiv, where an unmanned aerial vehicle targeted an enterprise minibus, according to the regional operational headquarters.
Two people were killed and six others were wounded in the vehicle strike. Regional officials stated that one injured woman remains in serious condition. Secondary strikes from first-person view, or FPV, drones subsequently set the commercial transport vehicle on fire.
FPV drones are remotely operated aircraft controlled via live video feeds, allowing operators precise maneuverability during tactical engagements. Belgorod Oblast has frequently faced aerial strikes due to its immediate proximity to the Ukrainian border.
