The incident occurred on the evening of October 30 at the Conrad Bengaluru hotel, according to aviation news website Simple Flying. Both men were visiting the country as tourists when they came into contact with an electrical current in the water.

Theiss was staying in Bengaluru after working on a Lufthansa flight that landed at Kempegowda International Airport. Lufthansa is the flag carrier of Germany, operating scheduled long-haul services connecting European hubs like Frankfurt and Munich with major Indian cities. Commercial airlines routinely accommodate operating flight crews at accredited luxury partner hotels during international layovers, and Kempegowda International Airport serves as the primary international gateway to southern India.

Hotel pool rescue attempt

A hotel employee who tried to rescue the two men in the pool was also injured, according to news outlet VnExpress. An American guest who was in the water managed to swim to safety, and medical workers treated both survivors, who were reported to be in stable condition.

Conrad Bengaluru is a five-star luxury hotel managed under the flagship luxury division of Hilton Worldwide. The property is located in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state, which serves as India's primary technology hub and attracts large numbers of foreign corporate travelers and tourists.

Electrocution hazards in swimming pools typically occur when electrical equipment develops faults beneath or beside the water. Defective underwater lighting, ungrounded circulation pumps, and degraded cable insulation can leak live voltage directly into a pool, creating dangerous electrical fields that can disable or drown swimmers.

Previous hotel pool electrocution

The fatal incident in Bengaluru follows an earlier case in which an 11-year-old child from Russia died from an electric shock at a five-star hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Russian diplomatic officials confirmed the boy's death at the Egyptian resort.

Sharm el-Sheikh is a major resort city situated at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula along the Red Sea coast. The destination is renowned for international tourism, where luxury beachfront properties host hundreds of thousands of European holidaymakers each year.
