Don’t say goodbye to Ellen Pompeo. That Grey’s Anatomy The star and executive producer broke the news to fans on Instagram Thursday, promising that she will eventually return as Meredith after her final midseason episode as a full-time cast member.
Pompeo said she is “eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support” fans have shown her and her character Meredith Gray over 19 seasons. “You know the show must go on and I will definitely attend again,” she wrote on Instagram.
As Deadline revealed in August, Pompeo is reducing her screen presence Grey’s Anatomy eight episodes this season. Her February 23 departure as a core cast member is aptly titled “I’ll Follow the Sun” and was written by Grey’s Anatomy Executive producer/showrunner Krista Vernoff is Episode 7. Pompeo, who is headed to a Hulu limited series in which she will star and executive produce, is expected to return Grey’s Anatomy‘s season 19 finale.
She remains the executive producer and will provide voice narrations for all episodes this season. At the fall finale on November 10, Meredith announced her departure from Gray Sloan via email.
