Luke Hemsworth says Westworld’s surprise cancellation was ‘disappointing’ but ‘you can’t get depressed about it’

Luke Hemsworth did not see the cancellation of HBO Western world comes, but philosophically approaches the fate of the dystopian sci-fi series.

Talking to ET at the premiere of his brother Chris Hemsworth’s new Disney+ series Unlimitedhe said: “You hope these things last forever, but everyone has their own reasons. “I’m very grateful for my role in this show and this journey has been a big part of my life, but it’s been disappointing.”

Adding to the disappointment was that Hemsworth received the news at the age of 42second Birthday. “I was like, ‘F**k!’ he said.

Hemsworth played Ashley Stubbs, Westworld parks chief of security, alongside Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright and Ed Harris in all four seasons.

HBO canceled the show earlier this month after season 4 ended in August.

“The idea from the beginning was to come full circle and return to traverse loops to traverse humans and robots stuck on that trajectory,” he said. “Unfortunately we are being cut off, but that is the nature of the world. You can’t get depressed there. You move on and it opens new doors.”

Evil robots Western world, directed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, was an adaptation of the 1973 film directed by Michael Crichton. During its run, it racked up nine Primetime Emmy wins and 54 nominations. It follows a world where the affluent giant theme parks are populated by android “hosts” that they can kill and have sex with without repercussions. The robots later become aware of their situation and escape the parks before merging with the real world and wreaking havoc in the process.
