John Oliver returned to poke fun at the week in politics and pop culture for another episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO and HBO Max. On a night focused on the British monarchy, the late-night show’s host began suggesting that Mr. Big Van sex and the city was a Trump supporter.
The play was preceded by two British women who said they were worried about the Queen’s death, but at the same time did not.
“It matters to me because she’s our queen,” she explained, adding that she didn’t care because “she didn’t do anything for us.”
Oliver then said he had a reaction similar to when Big died on the platoon bike in season one And just like thatthe sequel series sex and the city.
“I don’t care because Big was flashy, trashy and, let’s face it, he voted for Trump, but I do care a little because I know Carrie really cares. Look at her crushed in his last moments and do nothing,” he said.
A little later, Oliver said SKY TV in the UK had stopped some of its “fairly harmless jokes” about the Queen the week she died. When he again spoke about the monarchy, he feared the network would re-edit his show and prepared an alternate version “with a 25-minute loop” of “a video of Winston Churchill riding backwards down a waterslide with the Benny Hill theme locked.”
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver airs Sunday nights at 11pm ET on HBO and HBO Max.
