Forbidden Zone (M6) – an annual immersion with an oyster farmer family from the Gulf of Morbihan

This Tuesday evening, the Forbidden Zone offers us a summer dive into the world of the Gulf of Morbihan…

Last summer, teams from the Forbidden Zone landed in the Gulf of Morbihan in southern Brittany to get as close as possible to local figures for this bay, where its population increases tenfold from July to September. Three million visitors. Among these characters stands out Ivan Sélo, one of the 120 oyster farmers in the region. Always barefoot, even at the markets where he comes to sell dozens of oysters, this smiling and sun-wrinkled Breton is tucked away in one of the coves at the edge of Toulvern, in the heart of a little paradise. from the bay.

His family has been there for five generations. His ancestors, including his great-grandmother, traveled on barges operated with oars. Today, Ivan travels by motorboat to the semi-submerged beds carrying 20,000 bags of oysters that he and his staff have waved and hand-turned for three years before the shells are eaten. It’s a tiring job. Will there be a sixth generation of Selo? Ivan’s daughter, Romane, a communications student and toe-to-toe flirtatious (orange!), will take over?
