"What nonsense!" : Matteo Trentin, spokesperson for professional cyclists, torpedoes the UCI after the Tour de Burgos’ horrific fall

The day after the spectacular crash on the Tour of Burgos, Associated Professional Cyclists (CPA) spokesperson Matteo Trentin announced the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) inaction.

Matteo Trentin didn’t pull out his tweezers to topple the International Cycling Union (UCI). The rider from the UAE Emirates team on the Tour de Burgos was in the front row at the time of the crash and brought down most of the peloton on Wednesday, 3 August. Less than 500 meters from a planned destination for a major sprint, Dutchman David Nekker (Jumbo-Visma) lost control of his bike due to a speed bump. The hapless at the forefront of the race, crushing many competitors in his downfall.

If the end of the stage was difficult due to the celebrations of the riders of the Jumbo-Visma formation at the finish line, the organizers of the Burgos Tour were also chosen because of the dangerous route of the race. On Thursday, August 4, at the microphone Chain SetMatteo Trentin, spokesperson for the relevant Cyclists professionals (CPA) later strongly criticized the UCI, while the Tour of Poland also saw a few downfalls:Saw the Poland Tour, all the accidents we’ve had“He notes Italians who believe the authorities are not doing enough. For me the UCI should stop hiding behind stupid reasons. Time to act. We spent a lot of time talking to them during the pandemic in 2020. Me personally, with Philippe Gilbert, with the teams… All our requests were about safety on the road. Things have been done, it must be said but if you look at the road books it hardly gets any respect.

Matteo Trentin took the opportunity to address specific points of international regulation: “On the other hand, they are very quick at solving silly problems like the length of the socks! Well, I’m exaggerating… The truth is we have a roadbook that shows how finish lines should be, how sprints should be… It’s never respected!

Very upset Matteo Trentin requests that the UCI take action so that the peloton is not endangered by the organizers’ routes:We get no fines from the UCI, no sanctions against the organizers… Do we really have to wait until there is a death or a very serious injury? The federation must do what is expected of such an institution, namely, establish rules, ensure that they are respected, and consider the safety of drivers. So I’m really waiting for action, because right now it’s always just words and bullshit!
