SPOILER ALERT: Major plot points from tonight’s series finale of Magnum PI can be found below.
ABC’s Magnum P.I said goodbye tonight and series star Jay Hernandez talks about his thoughts on the ending and whether or not there will be a continuation of the story.
“I actually pitched the idea of a standalone film. I suppose it’s still possible. To be completely honest, I didn’t like the way the show ended,” Hernandez told a fan via Twitter who said he would like the program to continue.
He added: “On that note, I want to thank everyone #magnum #ohana for always supporting us! You were all AWESOME. We are honored by your dedication…’
Dedication. I know I’ve been inactive on this platform for reasons you know, but I hope this space of positivity continues even if the show doesn’t. Stay friendly and always curious. Here’s to health, happiness and gratitude in 2024. ❣️????????????️❣️

In June, Deadline exclusively announced that NBC would no longer order episodes of the Hernandez-led reboot series. Magnum P.I cheated death once. After CBS canceled the reboot last year, major studio Universal Television found a new home for the drama at sister network NBC.
The series follows Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), a private detective and former Navy SEAL who, after returning from Afghanistan, solves crimes within the state and reuses his military skills.
Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang and Amy Hill star alongside Hernandez. Showrunners Eric Guggenheim, Justin Lin, John Davis and John Fox are executive producers. The series is a co-production between Universal TV and CBS Studios, which shares rights with Universal TV.
Tonight’s action-packed finale opened with Higgins (Weeks) discovering that Magnum has a sparkling diamond engagement ring in his possession and not knowing how to react. Magnum knew Higgins had something on his mind before she realized she had noticed the gem. He tells her that the ring belongs to Rick (Zachary Knighton), who is about to marry his beloved Suzy (Betsy Phillips). Higgins is relieved that Magnum doesn’t want to propose to her, but perhaps too relieved for Magnum’s liking.
Later, Magnum finds a worthy sparring partner in Neil McRae, played by real-life martial arts villain Jesse Kove. They compete in an elevator, but things get tricky when McRae gets hold of a knife he brought for a fist fight. McRae and Magnum get out of the elevator, but the former uses the knife to take a hostage. It was just a prank to steal the car from the woman who worked for McRae, but she fled the scene.
But McRae is just one piece in a chess game of blackmail from powerful men led by Sam Bedrosian (Patrick Fabian) — oh, and that includes the governor. The governor was tricked into secretly recording a sexual encounter so that Bedrosian could use it as blackmail. McRae managed to get his hands on the CD and keep it for himself, but it all led to him being sent to prison.
Katsumoto (Tim Kang) arrests McRae and is saddled with incriminating evidence. He offers it to Magnum and Higgins in exchange for a secret audio recording of them, currently in Bedrosian’s hands. They decide to do the right thing, but in the end, the two of them help overthrow the shady governor and thwart Bedrosian’s evil plan.
Elsewhere, Kumu (Amy Hill) decides to buy out TC’s (Stephen Hill) share in the bar and she wants to take advantage of Magnum’s outstanding score.
The episode ends with a big speech from Magnum, followed by a dance with Higgins, who expresses her unusual reaction to the idea of marriage. She admits that things are perfect between them and that she doesn’t want to change anything, but if he ever asks, she’ll say yes. The last moment is a kiss they share, and there’s a lot to think about when it comes to the future.
