It wasn’t a Barney-level flat tire, but the One Piece balloon at today’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade suffered a flesh wound when the hat got caught on a tree.
Onlookers gasped as the manga character hit a snag, but the giant Monkey D Luffy balloon, making its parade debut, was able to continue despite the brim of its straw hat blowing off after hitting the tree.
The videos below show the moment of impact and the movement of the balloon to complete the parade.

The flat tire brought back memories of the legendary scenes of 1997 when the Barney balloon broke apart in high winds during the parade.
Today’s parade included inflatable balloons Bluish, Kung Fu Panda, Paw Patrol, followers And Spongebob Squarepants.
The parade was briefly interrupted by a pro-Palestinian protest.
The event was temporarily halted when a group of about thirty protesters ran into the street and apparently clung to the sidewalk at the route in New York.
