Dana Carvey thanks friends and fans for support after son Dex’s death and announces he’s taking a break from work and social media

Days after Dana Carvey’s oldest son, Dex, died of an alleged drug overdose, the comedian took to social media to thank friends, fans and those who knew Dex for “so many beautiful messages.”

He continued, “My wife and I have been overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories, your compassion.”

He then announced: “I will be taking a break from work and social media to find out what life is like now that we are a family of three.” We will heal and move on as best we can. Our dear Dex would have wanted it that way.”

Carvey signed, “Lots of love, Dana.”

Carvey and his wife Paula released a statement on Wednesday that said in part: “We experienced a terrible tragedy last night. Our beloved son Dex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.

“Dex has invested a lot in these 32 years. He was extremely talented in so many things – music, art, filmmaking, comedy – and pursued them all with passion.

Dex Carvey opened up about his father’s 2016 Netflix special: Straight white man.

The previous one SNL Catmember then shared a photo of him and his son.
