Michael Che and Colin Jost were back at the Weekend Update desk Saturday Night Live poking fun at the political world and pop culture.
The segment began with the duo mocking this weekend’s Republican debate, which aired on NBC. Jost reminded presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s audience that the “GOP has become a party of losers.”
“Oddly enough, a loser’s bracket was also the way NBC promoted the debate,” joked Jost.
Jost went on to mention the moment Ramaswamy mentioned Nikki Haley’s daughter, saying, “Leave my daughter out of your voice.”
The comedian then joked that Haley was “quoting directly from the Japanese subtitles of the Will Smith hit.”
A sweep of Joe Biden was the next step after polls showed Donald Trump in the lead and pundits called Biden’s presidential campaign a “fire alarm fire.” Jost then joked, “Which is scary for Biden, because in a fire you have to use the stars,” reminding everyone of when Biden tripped while climbing the stairs.
Che recalled Trump testifying under oath “in his civil fraud trial,” adding, “So technically he was never sworn in because the Bibles keep going up in flames.”
Jared Leto was in the news this week when he climbed the Empire State Building to promote his band 30 Seconds to Mars.
“The way the ads work is if we buy enough albums, he’ll jump,” Jost joked.
