Studios wasted no time Friday responding to the SAG-AFTRA National Council’s vote approving the new tentative agreement between the guild and the AMPTP.
“We are pleased that the National Council has recommended the agreement for ratification by members,” an AMPTP spokesperson said in a statement sent after the guild’s press conference at its headquarters on Wilshire Boulevard. “We are also grateful that the entire industry has returned to work with enthusiasm.”
This afternoon the full SAG-AFTRA Council voted 86% to approve the provisional agreement and prepare to send it to members for ratification. Voting will take place online and in person and will begin on Tuesday, November 14 and run until the first week of December, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, head of negotiations for the guild, announced at the press conference.
After a 118-day strike by the actors’ guild, SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached an agreement on Nov. 8 that the union described as “unprecedented.” The agreement between the two parties, which follows an agreement reached in late September between the studios and the WGA, includes wage and residual increases and bitter battles over AI protections.
The deal also came despite some harsh public and behind-the-scenes comments between the two sides in recent months.
