BBC acquires Australian spin-off of Death In Paradise

The BBC broadcasts Return to paradiseAn Australia-based offshoot of the long-running series Death in paradise. The six-part series, which will be filmed next year, is also produced by BBC Studios Productions Australia Death in Paradise Producer Red Planet Pictures for ABC, in association with the BBC. Set in the idyllic beach town of Dolphin Cove, the series will be a “gripping, twisted and devilishly clever crime thriller – all set against the spectacular backdrop of the Australian coastal landscape.” The plot revolves around Australian ex-pat Mackenzie Clarke, the seemingly golden girl of the London Metropolitan Police who is suddenly forced to up the ante and return to their childhood home, Dolphin Cove. When a murder occurs in Dolphin Cove, Mack has no choice but to use her brilliant detective skills. The series is created and produced by Peter Mattessi, James Hall and Robert Thorogood. Return to paradise was written by Mattessi with Elizabeth Coleman, Alexandra Collier and Kodie Bedford.

Canal+ participates in the German thriller series “Night In Paradise”

Canal+ has picked up a six-part thriller series Night in paradise and acquired rights in various European territories. The series from Windlight Pictures, owned by Moritz Polter, is based on the graphic novel by Frank Schmolke and revolves around a nightmarish world where lost souls fight for their lives. With Jürgen Vogel (The wave) and Lea Drinda (The griffin) as a father-daughter duo who embark on a nocturnal horror journey through a treacherous metropolis. The show, which airs on the Canal+ app, was Starz’s first German original series ordered before the streamer’s withdrawal from Europe. It is supported by the German Motion Picture Fund, the Medienboard, Berlin-Brandenburg, the Belgian tax shelter regime and Wallimage. Belga Productions handled physical production in Belgium. ITV Studios is the international distributor.

Taiwan’s Screenworks Asia presents the romantic series ‘Marriage Exposed’

Taipei-based companies Screenworks Asia, Strong Productions and Chou’s Entertainment are launching adult romance series Marriage exposed during the ongoing Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF). The series is currently in post-production and marks the return of Taiwanese star Jerry Yen (Meteor garden) after a break of 13 years, and also Ariel Lin (Get to you on time). Screenworks Asia is handling the international distribution of the series and released a teaser poster on TCCF, while Strong Productions is handling distribution in China. The story explores the “truth of modern relationships and contemporary marriages.”

Chinese company iQiyi begins production of the first Thai original “My Stand-In”

Chinese streamer iQiyi has begun production on its first Thai-language drama series. My deputy, which it co-produces with Thai company YYDS Entertainment. Monumental Television from ITV Studios, the production company behind award-winning shows such as Ghosts, Maryland and whores took over the option rights The Three Graces, the latest book from British novelist and short story writer Amanda Craig. Monumental said the development will soon take center stage in the adaptation, which follows three very different friends – Ruth, Diana and Marta – who retreat to the sun in Tuscany. When one of their neighbors, Enzo, shoots an illegal immigrant from his bedroom one night, it sets off a chain of events that entangles old and young, rich and poor, locals and foreigners alike. Over the course of two weeks, all involved face difficult decisions as they grapple not only with current threats, but also with their own pasts and realize that the realities of modern life make it increasingly difficult to believe that there is more is, it unites us as it separates us. The option agreement for The Three Graces was mediated by Anna Weguelin on behalf of Cathryn Summerhayes of the Curtis Brown Group.
