The one from Netflix Wellmania leaving the gym for the last time, star Celeste Barber said – and she’s not happy about it.
Barber posted an update on Instagram indicating that she had been informed that the series would not be returning for a second season. The first appeared at the end of March.
“Netflix said it was about numbers. Certainly. I thought it was broken, but I don’t understand how it works,” she said.
“Thank you very much for the love and support around the show. It was so much fun, we had a great time and the reception was so overwhelming. I’m sad that I won’t be able to explore more of Liv Healy’s excellent character, and I know many of you recognized yourself in this character and wanted to see more, but this industry sucks.
At the beginning of the video, Barber admitted, “Who cares when it comes to what’s going on in the world right now?” but added: “A lot of you care and have asked me about it and what’s going on.”
Wellmaniafrom Fremantle, Australia, follows Barber as Liv Healy as a true-to-life, dying young food writer who is forced to rethink her lifestyle and adopt a strict health routine after a serious health crisis leads to the cancellation of her dream job in the US. It is based on “Wellmania: Misadventures in the Search for Wellness” by Bridgit Delaney, who created the show with Benjamin Law. Barber, an executive producer on the series, also stars Genevieve Mooy, Lachlan Buchanan and JJ Fong. News about the series first broke in December 2021.
