“Infinity Pool”, dir. Brandon Cronenberg (2023)
David Cronenberg’s heir followed in his father’s footsteps and created grisly body horror. The plot follows writer James (Alexander Skarsgård), who is in a deep creative crisis, and goes with his wife Em (Cleopatra Coleman) to a resort hotel located in a certain (fictional) dangerous authoritarian country, La Tolka. “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey”, dir. Rhys Frake-Waterfield (2023)
Fans of Alan Milne can calm down: apart from the plot, the film has nothing in common with the characters in the fairy tale. According to the concept, the comedy slasher bears parallels with the computer game “Alice: Madness Returns” by American McGee (2013), which is adapted from Carroll’s fairy tale, that is, it represents the character’s children’s world poisoned by madness and fears. So the plot is simple: a little boy Christopher Robin meets strange creatures in the forest – Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore and Owl. He played with them, took care of them and fed them, but then the child grew up and went to college. For this the animals hated him and swore not to speak human language. Five years later, the hero returns to the forest to introduce his wife Mary to his distraught friends.
“M3GAN”, dir. Gerard Johnstone (2023)
