Elaine Devry dies: actress in “The Atomic Kid” and “A Guide for the Married Man” was 93 years old

Elaine Devry, whose career spanned films and dozens of television shows, died on September 20 at her home in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was 93 years old and the undertaker gave no reason why, but listed her under her married name, Davis.

Devry was the fourth wife of actor Mickey Rooney.

After marrying him in November 1952, she made her first appearance in the comedy with Rooney the following year. A petty case of theft and in an episode of the CBS anthology series “General Electric Theater,” hosted by Ronald Reagan.

Devry also appeared in films such as Chinese doll (1958), Human trap (1961), The last time I saw Archie (1961), Diary of a Mad Man (1963), Six gets you a spring roll (1968), The Cheyenne Social Club (1970), Bless the animals and children (1971), The werewolf boy yelled (1973) and Herbie drives again (1974).

Her TV resume included many guest appearances in the early days of television, including guest appearances Bourbon Street Beat, Bachelor Father, Perry Mason, Death Valley Days, 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye to Bonanza, I Dream of Jeannie, My Three Sons, Family Affair, Marcus Welby, MD, And Canon.

She quit acting in the late 1970s.

She was born Thelma Elaine Mahnken on January 10, 1930 in Compton, California. She worked as a model before moving to Butte, Montana to marry high school sweetheart Dan Ducich. The couple divorced in 1952.

She returned to California and met Rooney in Woodland Hills, and they married when she was 22 and he was 32, his fourth walk down the aisle. They were divorced in 1958.

Her funeral took place on October 7 in Oregon.
