Arie Elmaleh (OPJ, France 3): "During filming, I broke a rib in Reunion…"

In this fourth season, the actor plays an ex-soldier who is willing to do anything to find his missing daughter.

Who is your character Dimitri Caron?

Arie Elmaleh: A security guard working at a port in Reunion. Previously, he was a soldier. You cannot be one by chance… It has a certain relationship with order and authority. The man has a painful past: traumatized by the experience of the war and then mourning his wife. His daughter is his only reason for living, and his mysterious disappearance has completely lost his balance. She is convinced that she has been abducted, although her relatives and the police think she is a little offended.

You’re playing bare-handed wrestling scenes. Do you do martial arts?

We’re used to seeing me rarely as a brawler in the roles of good guys. It is true that it is not in my nature. But I have been doing these sports for many years both in a fun and sporty way. I did kravmaga, the British boxing, and got into Brazilian jiu-jitsu two years ago. During filming, while practicing this discipline in the Réunion, in the dojo, I actually broke one of my ribs, which hindered me a bit. But I find that martial arts allow you to externalize many things, get to know yourself and push your limits. I also worked with experienced stuntman and krav-maga expert Pascal Jams in the fight scenes.

If Dimitri is a warrior, he is also a father who is willing to do anything to save his daughter. And you, what kind of father are you?

I am very invested. As my two children – Isaac, 12 and Amalia, 9 – get older, I feel the need to listen and take care of them more. I think fatherhood is a great adventure that involves exchanging, sharing, dying… But deep down, I was a bit of an idiot. In summary, I am:Do as I say, but don’t do as I do!” (Laughs)

After your participation in Criminal Tropics in Martinique (France 2) we find you at Reunion. You seem to enjoy shooting on the islands…

I adore! I really fell in love with Reunion. It is a paradise where different religious and ethnic communities live together in harmony. Also, we eat well!

Were your last shots in such exotic places?

No… I shot in Angoulême in New Aquitaine, which is also a beautiful area, Anonymous, A miniseries starring Éric Cantona and Helena Noguerra. At that time I was in Cassel, where we were boxing with Sophie de Fürst, a new adventure from the France 3 collection. Date with crime.

from the room parrotWe didn’t see you on the boards with your fellow traveler Barbara Schulz in 2018. Will you go back to the theater?

I’m scheduled to go on stage again in January. It will be at the Théâtre Edouard VII in a play called Fois deux.

OPJ at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, July 6 at France 3.
