This number is likely to be particularly difficult for the 176 runners participating in the Grande Boucle, as that’s 110.to Edition offers a very mountainous course from the first week of the race. It is therefore a playground that should benefit the mountaineers and where the two big favorites of the competition, Tadej Pogacar, the winner of the 2020 and 2021 editions, and the defending champion Jonas Vingegaard have to fight.
Alexandre Pasteur was invited to the microphone on this occasion. Southern Radio Friday, June 30, the day before the Tour de France starts. The journalist has been the main commentator for Grande Boucle since 2017 after taking over from Thierry Adam. If the competition brings together millions of spectators every year, some are sometimes very critical of France Télévisions journalists. While Alexandre Pasteur was sometimes criticized for making too “public” comments, the latter wanted to reveal himself on the show. Southern Radio Media : “We target a wide audience. You should know that the Tour de France has an incredible audience, with an incredible 50% market share in the afternoon. We’re on average at 4 million in France 2, peaking at 9 million viewers when we arrived at Alpe d’Huez on July 14 last year. It will be the same this year, there is no reason. The cast is amazing, we’ll be amazed at the sporty level.“
As Alexandre Pasteur explains, if the Tour de France is a major sporting event, the competition also attracts many spectators who are fond of beautiful landscapes and passionate about exploring the French land: “Of course we’re the general public, because 50% of the viewers on French Television have seen the Tour through castles, churches, heritage, lands we passed by, etc. watching for. Race is secondary. And there’s the other part of the public that’s clearly more interested in racing. Everyone has to be satisfied.“Despite the criticism, Alexandre Pasteur does not intend to revise his comments on the race:”That’s why I’m leaving a lot of space for Franck Ferrand on the air because he’s a great storyteller and to tell France I don’t think he’s any better. We make room for him, and I make room for him, and I totally accept that. It is true that we are the general public, but this also applies to the public that listens and watches us.“
